Scarning Primary – A – School for the Community

The school recognises the important part it can play in the local community. As well as serving the children in its care Scarning primary strives to be a hub for a wide range of community events. Often these are organised and driven by the school although we do offer a range of facilities for community use.

The community in the school

Here is a ‘snapshot’ of some of the opportunities the school has planned to bring the community into the school. As they reflect the changing moods of the year, once so necessary to the life of a traditional Victorian school, I give them in ‘seasonal’ order!

September ‘Community Coffee Morning’ in aid of Macmillan Nurses.

It is a responsibility of our Year 6 children to organise a MacMillan coffee morning. This year they decided it should be run on a Saturday morning so that it could have more of a community impact. Events such as this help the children learn key skills in serving the community and also shows the school in a very caring, hospitable light. We raised a fantastic £479.07. This has been sent to Macmillain Cancer.

October Harvest Celebrations Week culminating in ‘Apple Day’.

Donations from children and families were this year given to a local food bank in a Harvest Thanksgiving assembly. The main focus of the week is the ever popular Apple Day organised by the Year 4 children. This is a wonderful opportunity for cross curricular studies as the children have to organise, cost, produce, advertise and sell their wares.

December Christmas Fayre

Stalls, raffles and Santa’s Grotto make for a lively afternoon as we move towards the Christmas holiday.

December Nativity & Christmas Production

The nativity is the two Reception classes opportunity to perform for their mums, dads and wider families. So popular we put it on twice!!

In addition this year Key Stage 1 will be performing their Christmas Production at school.

School Sports Days

Both key stages Sports Events take place on the same day. We encourage parents to bring a picnic and make a day of it on our lovely field.

Summer Fete

The Summer Fete is always good fun. Soaking teachers with wet sponges always seems to go down well. I can’t think why?
